Privacy policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026
Chennaigalore (chennaigalore.com) is a directory of local businesses in Chennai. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Business owner accounts: your name, email address, mobile number and password. Your password is stored only as a secure one-way hash, so nobody at Chennaigalore can read it.
- Business listings you add: the business name, category, address, phone number, and, if you give them, an email address, website, opening hours and description. These details are shown publicly on the site.
- Enquiries: when you use "Send enquiry", we collect your name, mobile number, optional email address and your message, and pass them to that business.
- Reviews: the name, star rating and text you post are shown publicly on the business's page.
- Contact form messages: your name, mobile number and message.
- Technical information: our hosting provider processes your IP address to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse. We use it to limit repeated sign-in, enquiry, review and contact attempts, and do not store it in our database.
Cookies and browser storage
When you log in, we set one cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 30 days, or until you log out. Your browser also remembers the area you last chose in the search box. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use your information
- To run the directory: show listings and reviews, and let owners manage their businesses.
- To deliver enquiries to the business you contacted.
- To answer messages you send us and help with your account, including password resets.
- To keep the site secure and prevent spam and misuse.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who can see it
- Everyone: business listing details and reviews.
- The business you contact: your enquiry, including your name and mobile number.
- Service providers that run the site: Cloudflare hosts the site and its database. Pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, icons from unpkg.com, maps from OpenStreetMap and photos from Wikimedia Commons, so those services receive your IP address when they send content to your browser. The "Directions" button opens Google Maps.
- Authorities: only when the law requires it.
Business information from OpenStreetMap
Many listings come from OpenStreetMap, a public map that anyone can edit, and their photos come from Wikimedia Commons. If your business is listed with wrong details, use "Suggest an edit" on its page, or contact us.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and listings while your account is open. Owners can delete their own listings at any time from My account, and that also deletes the listing's enquiries. If you ask us to close your account, we delete your account and your listings.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us for a summary of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and raise a complaint about how we handle it. To make a request, send us a message. We will verify that the request comes from you before acting on it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS only. Passwords are hashed, owners can change only their own listings, and we limit repeated attempts to sign in or send messages. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.
Children
Business accounts are for adults. Please do not create an account if you are under 18.
